Last year I reviewed a DVD entitled “ Butterfly Days”, produced by Sandy Harman and sold to raise funds for local Butterfly Conservation Branches. Sandy has now produced a new version entitled “The Best of Butterfly Days PLUS”, compiled from the best of the previous film clips, but with the addition of much fresh material. The PLUS refers to a new section showing eleven of the rarer visitors to this country, some of which were once residents here.
The 90 minute DVD can be likened to a trip around Britain from April to September showing 58 species in the main section, plus the eleven mentioned already in the PLUS section. I, for one, cannot get around the country to see all our species in several years, never mind 90 minutes. The species are identified by discreet captions, as are the other subjects shown, including caterpillars, moths, dragonflies and flowers etc. Close-ups abound. There is no irritating music, minimal voice-over and many natural countryside background sounds.
This DVD costs only £8.00, of which at least £6.00 goes direct into our Yorkshire Branch funds. Even more if you assist with the postage costs, as many members already have with prior issues.
