Come and join us on one of the exciting workshops or field trips that are planned across Yorkshire. Explore and learn about butterflies and moths. Get hands on and get involved!
Saturday 17th June 2025 | 11am - 3pm
Join the team that run this tiny meadow is in the heart of Shipley train station, between platforms 2, 5 and the car park. It is a short walk from Shipley town centre. This area of herb-rich grassland remained after the construction of the car park. Protected by fencing and maintained by annual mowing in the autumn, it supports an amazing range of butterflies and moths. With luck we will encounter the Common Blue and Marbled White plus we will be hunting for the rare and ellusive White-letter hairstreak on the nearby Elm trees.

Join the BC Yorkshire team at this fantastic site to enjoy a hunt for our summer species of butterfly and peer into the amazing world of moths with a look at what was caught in the moth trap the previous site. There will be activities for children as well as a guided walks planned for 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. Children can enjoy our butterfly colouring competition and maybe even win a prize.

Delight and discover with Dalby's event purely dedicated to the science behind the natural world in this year's theme, 'Mimics'.
From Archaeology, Zoology, Geology and many more depths, you can explore the natural world with experts from national and local organisations and discover how species in the natural world look, sound and smell different from others. This year's theme covers how species copy and mimic one another to camouflage or misguide. This event features activities for all ages, guided education sessions and interactive displays hosted by our very knowledgeable experts.

Local expert Nick Hall leads an afternoon looking at native UK butterflies and observing them in the Forest of Flowers habitat during their peak season.Thanks to the wildflower meadows and woodland habitat here, the Forest of Flowers nature reserve is home to a large number of butterflies.
