Paull Holme Strays was the first major  flood prevention works to help protect the City of Hull and surrounding areas from future flooding with a managed realignment scheme on the River Humber which was breached by the Environment Agency in 2003. The site provides approximately 80 ha of inter-tidal habitat to compensate for the loss of saltmarsh and mudflats in the area. Managed in partnership with the Environment Agency the grassalnds provide a great habitat for Butterflies including  some threatened species like Small Heath

Sections

S1 and S4  have the highest butterfly interest both having the threatened Small Heath in number. 

S1 Is home to the Meadow Browns  

S4 looks to have longer grasses and favoured by the Essex Skipper and  Gatekeeper 

S5 goes alongside a tree line and Speckled Woods are dominant
