Fryston Country Park was once a coal mining site,Former Fryston & Wheldale colliery sites. Turned into country park by Homes & Communities Agency’s National Coalfield Programme. The Land Trust took ownership in 2012

It is now an attractive 85 hectare community meadow and woodland. Managed by Groundworks, on behalf of the Land Trust, this is a vital space for nature as well as for local people to enjoy walking, running and cycling routes along different trails. Its is a mix of Dry semi/unimproved Flower rich Neutral Grassalnd and scrub and some planted woodland

Sections:

S1 and S2 is a favourite with our garden species favoured by the brimstone and the whites while entering the reserve at S3 sees more browns. Common Blue favours meadow areas of S6-7 but particularly S13 while Speckled woods favour S10-11 woodland gatekeepr favours the woodland ride of S11. S14 has the highest counts with and is favoured by grassland species particularly Meadow Brown and Small Skipper
